I connect the pre-out from the headphone amp to the inputs of the Studer, set the Studer for fixed input level (what they call "calibrated" level in recording-studio speak), and use the headphone amp's volume control to set the overall record level by watching the Studer's meters. I feed the output from my DAC to a very-high-quality headphone amp, which has a "pre-out". I actually use a variation of this system for recording on my Studer A810 RTR. Remember that your receiver's volume control is active, so once you have set this level, DO NOT TOUCH THE RECEIVER'S VOLUME CONTROL DURING RECORDING.

Now play a source on your receiver, and SLOWLY turn the volume up on the receiver until you have the proper level on the Nak while monitoring the Nak's meters. Now adjust the Nak's record level controls to the half-way mark, making sure both channels are the same. Then turn your volume control all the way down. First, make sure you have turned off any treble/bass/balance adjustments. The downside of this is that the "pre-out" connections will run through the receiver's pre-amp circuitry, which means the volume control, and any signal-processing (e.g., treble/bass and/or balance adjustment), instead of taking a fixed-level non-processed signal from the source (which is what you get at the VCR/DVR outputs). I know that either way, I could use aux on the front to play as well, so no matter what - I will be listening to tapes today! Thanks!Īn alternative for recording (not playback) would be to use the "Pre-Out" connections for Zone 2 or Zone 3, and connect that to the recording input on the Nak. I sure do appreciate your quick response.

I do not want to harm any equipment, of course, so just tossing that out there.
HOOKING IPOD TO TAPEDECK INPUT ON AMPLIFIER HOW TO
An aside and probably difficult - I have an old yamaha rx-v995 - is there a way, if you know, to connect the Nak to it and then the Yamaha to the Denon in some way without hurting the speakers or anything? That will give me space issues about how to house yet another thing, but could be an answer. Looks as though I may end up just playing for now and recording later. Alas, I found some written notes from the last time I hooked things up and I forgot I’ve got the Wadia/cambridge audio transport in the DVR and the tivo is in vcr and I have an oppo in my hdmi of number 1 (dvd) slot and rega’s phono preamp (a jolida) is using the analog on that number 1 slot. I was trying to make a plan before pulling the equipment away from the wall.
